How to Make Money Online & Work from Anywhere

One of the questions I get asked the most is: How can you afford all of this travel? Of course, there isn’t just one right answer to this, but there are endless options. Since everyone is different, the best solution might vary for each person. For me personally, working online makes a lot of sense because I can do it from anywhere and just rely on Wifi. Luckily today, that can be found almost everywhere. Sometimes it might be pretty slow though. So I always make the Wifi connection a priority when choosing a place to stay. If the internet doesn’t work as expected I look for a coffee shop, restaurant, internet cafe, etc. nearby. And I also use local SIM cards with data to use as a hotspot anywhere.

However, online there are so many possibilities that it can be overwhelming at first. It took over a year to figure out the best way for me. But it doesn’t have to take that long for you! In order to help you reach your goals faster than me, I compiled a list of things that helped or still help me to earn our money online. Don’t think it’s easy money though. To make a living online is hard work and you have to put in your energy, effort, and persistence to become a professional like in any other profession. If someone tells you that you can become rich quickly without any effort it’s a scam!

1. Freelancing (as a Virtual Assistant)

Since I studied and used to work in an office doing Digital Marketing, I planned to offer my knowledge and skills to clients even before leaving Germany in 2017. It took a while until I actually created my professional profile, applied to lots of jobs, and succeeded in finding great clients.

Of course, there are many different options for what services you can offer depending on your expertise. If you are new to Digital Marketing and working online, I can recommend Udemy courses for learning new skills. And of course, there’s YouTube. Some of the tasks you can offer include customer support, processing online orders and refunds, website design, WordPress maintenance, graphic design and layout, content and keyword research, content creation and copywriting, editing and proofreading, transcription, data entry, social media, email and project management.

There are several Facebook groups that helped me start my VA career:

These useful websites have many different job offers for VAs and freelancers of any level of expertise:

LinkedIn can also be helpful for connecting with professionals from around the world and finding work. I’ve received several job offers through this site.

2. Blogging

Apart from keeping my family and friends up to date with this blog, my goal is also to help others to travel better and eventually make money. You can start a blog about basically anything you are interested in. Yet, the most important part is that it’s something you are passionate about so you stay motivated even if you encounter some hardships. It is also crucial to choose a niche that you can target. As a matter of fact, your blog will only become successful if you reach the right people and help them solve their problem(s).

2.1 Affiliate Marketing

One way to make money from a blog is through Affiliate Marketing. By recommending websites, services, or products and having individual links with tracking you can earn a commission. For the person who clicks a so-called Affiliate link and makes a purchase, no additional costs are added. Sometimes they even get a special offer.

If you want to become an Affiliate Marketer, most programs require an application. You will need to fill in information about your website, location, visitors, etc. Especially when you are just starting and don’t have a lot of content and traffic on your website, you might get rejected for a program. If that happens try to find an email contact and ask for their requirements.

Some (big) companies have their own affiliate programs that you can subscribe to and start promoting. In order to find those you can just type “company & affiliate program” in Google, e.g. “Amazon affiliate program”. Some of the ones we like to use are:

Then, there are Affiliate networks that connect several companies with publishers. These are the best we found so far:

2.2 Banner Ads

Another way to monetize a website is to show ads on the pages. One of the best ones is Google Adsense because it automatically shows an ad to the visitor that they might find interesting. If you have a WordPress website there are several useful plugins that help you insert the ads easily. The one we use is called Ad Inserter.

2.3 Social Media

If you have a blog, you should definitely promote it on Social Media. Actually, which platforms work best depends on your content. In general, Facebook is great for most businesses because there are so many active users (3.51 billion). So chances are high that your target audience can be found there.

Despite this, other platforms might be even better for certain niches. For example, I really like Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok. Once I have enough Instagram followers (the goal is 10,000 ;), it’s also possible to make money by posting pictures and stories in collaboration with brands.

3. Surveys

This option won’t make you rich, but it’s a nice way to make a couple of extra bucks. For me, filling out surveys and giving others feedback can also be fun.

On UserTesting you can test and review websites. As a result, the website owner can find out how easy to use and understand their services are. Usually, each test takes between 20 and 30 minutes and is rewarded with $10 via PayPal.

With Respondent, you can even earn more money. There are one-on-one interviews and projects that pay up to $150 per hour!

Swagbucks doesn’t only give you money for answering surveys but also cashback for shopping on certain websites you would use anyway!

The largest paid review website on the internet is Slicethepie. Here you can earn some extra money by reviewing music and fashion.

4. Selling Photos

Nowadays, not only photographers but also regular picture takers can sell their photos and other art online. The question is just where to find interested buyers. Thankfully, there are several websites and apps that connect sellers and buyers.

5. Crypto

I am new to this topic so I can’t give a lot of advice yet. But one thing is for sure: The best time to start is ASAP! I recommend you do your own research on which crypto to buy and then start with a trading platform like Crypto.com. This is the one I use and one of the best for beginners. If you sign up through my link you receive US$ 25.

I hope I could help you get a better idea of making money online. Please let me know what you think about our recommendations and if you have any other tips for working online. You can also contact me if you have any questions.

Good luck! ☺️❤️🌎
